THE PROJECT | Brand identity, stationery, signage, programs and welcome packages for a three day wedding weekend.
THE PROCESS | From the Friday night rehearsal dinner to the Sunday morning brunch, the entire celebration was held at Puh’tok in the Pines, a summer camp retreat in Monkton, Maryland.
The couple wanted to create an emblem for the weekend, and lean into the ‘summer camp’ theme within the unique venue. My first task was using a screenshot as inspiration to create this identity.
The bride is an avid reader and postcard writer, she loves Jane Austen novels and the entire Hobbit and Lord of the Rings series, and if she could visit any moment in time, it would be Woodstock ‘69. I presented three directions with a drafted emblem, typeface groups, and icons for use throughout the weekend’s printed work.
The direction chosen was titled It’s Giving Me Jane Austen; a modern interpretation of Regency and Georgian era themes. I chose fine-line flower illustrations with minimal copper strokes in geometric shapes, organic calligraphy paired with literature-inspired typefaces.
Once the style direction was decided, the color palette was expanded and more flower illustrations were brought in as design elements.
The Save-the-Date was designed as a postcard, so that the bride could begin as a host by inviting each guest with a individual postcard to visit the wedding website, and end by leaving each and every guest their own personal thank you note as a seat card. In lieu of RSVP cards, guests were invited to the wedding website in the form of a QR code, to provide responses on attendance.
Signage for the weekend included markers from the main roads, outside each lodging, and hanging tapestries throughout the ceremony and reception grounds.
Guests were first directed to the camp office, where they would pick up their emblem-stamped welcome bags. Each bag included water and snacks, lodging assignments, a camp map, a flashlight and a weekend program with fun facts, FAQs, event agendas.
Apropos-quotes from the Baltimore-native Edgar Allan Poe and the Shire-native Bilbo Baggins were snuck in throughout the signs and programs.
